Wave illusion

The mind can easily be fooled by optical illusions were lines and shadows tricks us into thinking something is different from reality. I have played with the thoughts of engraving something that “bend” reality a little bit and gives the knife an extra level of detail to consider. This is my first fumbling try doing just that.
Ok, I have no problem admitting this is not a very complex try, but I believe it proves it can be done, by very simple means as well.

The plan was to give this knife an illusion of having a waist. The lines on the engraved stainless steel parts are curved, making you think that the steel is not entirely flat. Rest of the handle is built up with twisted pattern welded steel, approximately 20 000 year old mammoth and copper rivets. The blade is hand forged mosaic steel – very dramatic with bright nickel forged into the more grayish steel.

The shape and style of the knife is very Scandinavian with no guard and harmonic lines all fitted into a custom made leather sheath made of orthopedic leather (raw hide leather).

Total length: 26cm

Blade: 3 bar handforged mosaic pattern welded steel with nickel.

Handle: Twist pattern welded steel, engraved stainless steel with copper inlay and 20 000 year old mammoth tusk. Copper rivets.

Sheath: Rawhide leather sheath with mosaic button on the belt-strap.
