This knife was my first fully engraved blade. I have been doing highly detailed dramatic pattern welded blades for a very long time, and it do feels nice to make something different. The blade is a laminate blade with stainless steel sides and a carbon steel cutting edge. This blade were supposed to be a mere training-session and I never intended to have it attached to a handle, but here it is.

Welding stainless steel to a carbon steel object is a bit different then welding carbon to carbon. The processes is very unforgiving and you have to have an environment around the to metal pieces that´s completely oxygen free. A little bit trickier but the result is very nice.

I have been doing metal engravings for around two years now and have put allot of time into develop not only a unique pattern – inspired from the ancient Norse people of the Vikings and the Vendels, but also pushed myself to actually master the technique – it truly takes allot of hours to understand the process involved in cutting steel.
This knife is in many ways a landmark for my skills with fully engraved parts and my first try on overlays. Overlaying a metal on steel, like I have done with the copper on this knife, makes the overlay stick out from the background. If you drag your finger over this blade you will feel every copper-part sticking out a little bit.

The reindeer handle is engraved as well but not with the same technique as you engrave steel. Very famous for their horn-engravings are the native Sami people from the north of Scandinavia and even if very thin Sami blood runs trough my veins, I do not claim doing the same type of work they do – I try to find my own way here as well, as in most things I do.
